Up for sale is a nice Traumatocrinus hsui crinoid plate.   This fossil measures 6 1/2 inches and dates back to the Triassic time period, approximately 250 million years ago.
Crinoids, often known as “sea lilies”, though commonly believed to be plants, were actually marine animals.  These invertebrates typically adhered to the sea floor by a stem and then used their feathery feeding arms to sweep food into their mouths.   Traumatocrinus was unique in that it attached to pieces of driftwood rather than living on the bottom of the ocean.
