Crinoid is 3.2 inches across!
This is simply a special example of Onychocrinus ulrichi from the Mississippian of Indiana. This top quality crinoid is preserved in the rare VENTRAL ''starburst'' position, where all five arms are splayed out - it is extremely unusual to find all five arms this well preserved and beautifully displayed. This textbook specimen is very 3-dimensional and wonderfully articulated - even the tiny ramules of the arms are present.
The plate structure is superbly defined, and the tips of the arms were all prepared free-standing - WOW!
The light cream color of the crinoid contrasts beautifully with the blue-grey matrix. The striking fossil is almost perfectly centered on the sculpted block of matrix. This is an extremely collectible and incredibly displayable specimen of Onychocrinus ulrichi from the classic Crawfordsville Crinoid Beds.
