    Description

GREAT FOR TEACHERS, PROFESSORS, GEOLOGIC LECTURERS, MUSEUMS…OR JUST YOUR OWN PERSONAL COLLECTION.
NEW to all humans as this outstanding mudstone specimen has been submerged for 55-400 million years…perhaps even before the dinosaurs were wiped out by the Chicxulub Mexico asteroid 65 million years ago! The fossils themselves embedded in this ancient petrified mudstone are around 55-75 million years old…and iron-rich clay carbonite mudstone itself is as much as 400 million years! This 80-gram…2.8-ounce crinoid is chock full of fossils…ancient crinoids, ancient horn coral and ancient seashells. So awesome looking. A really nice intermediate size!
RARE Michigan Nodules of this variety are found ONLY on a very short, secluded, inconspicuous stretch of shoreline on Lake Michigan. These reddish-brown concretions date back to the Devonian Period 400 million years ago…and the Paleocene Epoch 55-75 million years ago (see chart I uploaded). These petrified mudstones are predominantly composed of a fine-grained, iron-rich clay carbonate, sometimes referred to as “ironstone.” Some, called Septarians (which I also sell), have lightning bolt-like cracks filled with white or yellow calcite. Others, like THIS one, are filled with petrified ancient fossils 55-75 million years old!
I’ve been finding these keepsakes for years, and when I discover one of these in my special spots on Lake Michigan, I am picking up a relic that was formed back around the time of the dinosaurs! Wouldn’t you like to hold one yourself? They are wonderful to display. The larger ones make wonderful paperweights. Sometimes the smaller ones make beautiful pendants for a necklace. I do not grind them down or polish them…you can do that if you wish. I only offer them in raw, unpolished condition…the way Mother Nature gave them to ME…lol. I also didn’t wet it for the photo. Check back often as I will be listing more as I discover them. I will offer ancient relics like these at a very fair price.
